Threedoorsandframeswereexaminedduringthisvisit.Theinformation gatheredduringthisexamination wasthenforwarded totheFMRCfApprovals Divisionforevaluation.
Theassemblies arelocatedinUnit1and2ReactorBuildings.
ThewriterisanEngineerintheApprovals DivisionofFactoryMutualandhas7yearsofexperience, primarily inthenuclearindustry.
Hisprimaryresponsibility istestinganddetermination offireresistance ofbuildingmaterials andfireratedassemblies.
(I(),t~lCTORYMUTUALRESEARCHCORPORATI IIFIREDOORASSEMBLYEVAULATIONS Threeunlabeled specialpurpose(watertight)firedoorassemblies wereexaminedduringthisvisittotheSusquehanna SteamElectricStationattherequestofthePennsylvania Power.andLightCompany(PPSL)2.1FIREDOORASSEMBLIES 2.1.1LocationThedoorsexaminedwerelocatedatElevation 645andwereidentified asDoors14,23and24.Door14separates Unit2,AandB,CoreSprayPumpRooms;Door23separates Unit1,AandB,RHRPumpRoomsandDoor24separates Unit2,AandB,RHRPumpRooms.2.1.2Construction Thethreedoorswereinspected andfoundtobeidentical tooneanother.Theymeasure3ftwidex7fthighandconsistofa1/4in.steelplatewith1in.x2in.x3/16in.steelchannel.Thereare2hingesweldedtothedoyzandframeprovidedwith5/8in.diameterpins.Eachdoorisequippedwith'C!twelvesteelbarlatchesoperatedbyacentermountedwheeltypeoperator.
Thelatchthrowsarel-l/4in.longandengagethe5/8in.thicksteelframeonthetop,bottomandsides.Thedoorsarerubbergasketedtomakeawaterproof sealwiththe5/8in.thicksteelframe.Doors23and24aremountedin36in.thickreinforced concretewalls.Door14ismountedina30in.thickreinforced concretewall.2.1.3Evaluation These3doorswerefoundtobeidentical toadoorwhichhadbeenpreviously evaluated bySamuelM.KnightofFactoryMutualResearchCorporation withconclusion contained inareportentitled"Evaluation ofSelectedFireDoorandDoorFrameAssemblies" datedJanuary1985.Thedoorpreviously evaluated isidentified asDoor13andreferenced inSection2.2,SpecialPurposeDoor,intheabovenotedreport.Theconclusion inthatreportisthatDoor13wouldprovideaminimumof1-1/2hoursoffireresistance 2.1.4Conclusion Doors14,23and24wouldprovideaminimumofl-l/2hoursfireresistance.
