CalvertCliffsNuclearPowerPlantUnitsNos.1R2;DocketsNos.50-317and50-318ReuestforModificationofMarch161983OrderGentlemen:ByourletterdatedFebruary3,1980werequestedrelieffromtheschedularrequirementsimposedbyCommissionOrderdatedMarch16,1983inasmuchasitrequiresinstallationofanoblegassteameffluentmonitorbyMarch1,1980.AstheresultofdiscussionwithMessrs.3.Zwolinski(ORAB)andD.3affe(ORB3)onFebruary29,1980weunderstandthatourproposednewcompletiondatesofJune30,1985(Unit1)andDecember31,1985(Unit2)cannotbeacceptedbyyourstaff.Thepurposeofthisletteristorequestthat,inlieuoftheschedulesuggestedbyourFebruary3,1980letter,thesubjectOrderbemodifiedtoreflectthefollowingcommitmentonourpart:TheBaltimoreGasandElectricCompanywillprocureandinstallanacceptablereplacementtotheexistingnoblegassteameffluentmonitorratemetermoduleandplacethesysteminservicepriortoDecember31,1980.Intheeventthattheas-installedportionsofthesystem(triaxialcablingandshieldeddetectorassembly)arenotcompatiblewiththereplacementsystem,thenthoseas-installedportionsofthesystemwillbereplacedwithcompatibleequipmentandthesystemmadeoperationalduringthefirstoutageofsufficientdurationfollowingDecember31,1980.WehaveinitiatedprocurementofareplacementsystemandexpecttotakedeliveryofallcomponentsbySeptember1980.Onthisbasis,theproposedDecember31,1980,deadlineissupportableinthatitallowsadequatetimeforinstallation'andtestingassumingthattheexistingshieldeddetectorassemblyandtriaxialcablingareelectronicallycompatiblewiththereplacementsystem.Intheeventthatthedetectorandassociatedcablingarenotcompatible,thentheywillbereplacedwithacceptableequipment.However,becausethisequipmentislocatedinthemainsteampenetrationroomincloseproximitytothemainsteamline,replacementduringpoweroperationsis8403060400='840301'*PDRADDCK050003i7'PDRgaol JfIIIIV'II"',I'f78~
