This letter conEtitutes a complete report concerning the subject condition initially reported to the Commission on November 31, 1982, as a potentially reportable deficiency under 10CFR50.55(e).
Reiterating letter QA-2229 of January 31, 1983, H.J. Kaiser Company, Nonconformance Report (NR) #10,270 identified a 4'5" W8x31 beam to be used in the fabrication of hanger 1RH313HR as having the original mill rolled heat number ground off and replaced with another. Additional mill markings indicate that the beam in question is ASTM A-36 material manufactured by Northwestern Steel & Wire Company, however, the heat number stamped on the beam at the site is traceable to ASTM A-588 GR. B.
Research has shown that only one 20' section of W8x31 A-588 GR.B beam was ordered. Location of this W8x31 A-588 GR.B beam shows 14' being installed in the drywell area 572' elevation, with 6' still in the laydown area. The A-36 material identified in the above paragraph is indeed A-36 and the status should be changed to read "not reportable", based on the fact that hanger 1RH313HR required A-36 material.
The additional concerns addressed in the January 31, 1983 report have been evaluated and determined to be not reportable.
