Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

This in reply to your letter of October 3,1972 requesting additional information regarding our program to demonstrate acceptable wall thickness on valves important to nuclear safety.

We have now developed a program to demonstrate acceptable wall thickness on all forged and cast body valves over 1-inch nominal pipe size that are important to nuclear safety. This pronran will involve an engineering review of all valves to determine those which were ordered to ratings higher than actually required by service conditions and physical or ultrasonic measurement of wall thickness on those which cannot be justified to satisfy service requirements.

Our schedule is to complete the engineering review and transmit justifi-cation for those valves which we believe satisfy service requirements to you by llay 1, 1973. Physical or ultrasonic neasurement of those valves which cannot be justified to satisfy service requirements will begin during our next scheduled refueling shutdown in the spring of 1974. We plan to complete this program by June 22, 1977.

Very truly yours, ,
