SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 QUALIFICATION OF RAYCHEM KIT NPKS-02-01 SDAR: CP-86-21 (INTERIM REPORT)

Dear Mr. Johnson:

On March 24, 1986, we verbally notified your Mr. T. F. Westerman of a deficiency involving possible discrepancies in vendor (Raychem) methodology for testing of environmental qualification which may render the Raychem Kit NPKS-02-01 unacceptable for specific published applications. This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e). We have submitted an interim report logged TXX-4772, dated April 23, 1986.

The vendor's Environmental Qualification Report EDR-6057 is under review by the CPSES equipment qualification group and is scheduled for completion by July, 1986. We are continuing our evaluation and anticipate submitting our next report by July 16, 1986.

Very truly yocrs,
