, Dear Mr. Wood: i
on January 7.1998, the NRC completed an inspection at your Davis-Besse site. The enclosed
report presents the results of that irwpection.

During this inspection period, the plant was operated safely and in <accordance with plant
procedures. A minor plant transient caused by the failure of a servo control valve was effectively
handled by operators. Although your corrective action program was generally effective in
identifying and resolving issuss, a prior opportunity to identify the servo control valve problem
was missed by the engineering department. No violations of NRC requirements were identified,
in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of PractPa," a copy of this letter and its
enclosure will be placed in the NRC Pubk Document Room.
