CONSTRUCTION REACTOR OVERSIGHT PROCESS RESOURCES

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff originally e stimated that direct inspection will require 35,000 hours0 days <br />0 hours <br />0 weeks <br />0 months <br /> per unit over the course of a 5-year nuclear power plant construction project. As of September 1, 2022, revised estimates are approx imately 43,300 hours0.00347 days <br />0.0833 hours <br />4.960317e-4 weeks <br />1.1415e-4 months <br /> for Vogtle Unit 3 and 28,300 hours0.00347 days <br />0.0833 hours <br />4.960317e-4 weeks <br />1.1415e-4 months <br /> for Vogtle Unit 4. These revised estim ates include:

  • 19,063 hours7.291667e-4 days <br />0.0175 hours <br />1.041667e-4 weeks <br />2.39715e-5 months <br /> for inspections related to ITAAC for Vogtle Unit 3 (at 100% completion),

and 10,700 hours0.0081 days <br />0.194 hours <br />0.00116 weeks <br />2.6635e-4 months <br /> for Vogtle Unit 4;

  • 14,200 hours0.00231 days <br />0.0556 hours <br />3.306878e-4 weeks <br />7.61e-5 months <br /> for construction and operational program inspecti ons for Vogtle Unit 3, and 7,600 hours0.00694 days <br />0.167 hours <br />9.920635e-4 weeks <br />2.283e-4 months <br /> for Vogtle Unit 4;
  • 5,000 hours0 days <br />0 hours <br />0 weeks <br />0 months <br /> for reactive inspections above the baseline progra m in response to licensee performance issues, allegations, and nonperformance issues or e vents;

Table 1 and figure 1 show the total number of direct inspection hours expended through September 1, 2022, for Vogtle Units 3 and 4.

  • To date, NRC Headquarters technical staff inspection support has not been linked to a specific docket and has not been fee billable. Therefore, it is not possible to distinguish the technical support hours expended by the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation on each unit. In Table 1, the total hours expended on technical support have been split between the units.

Figure 2 summarizes the direct inspection hours expended for in spections related to ITAAC since the start of construction at Vogtle Units 3 and 4. The st aff estimates that there are approximately 19,063 hours7.291667e-4 days <br />0.0175 hours <br />1.041667e-4 weeks <br />2.39715e-5 months <br /> of direct inspection related to ITAA C for Unit 3 (at 100%

completion) and estimates there will be approximately 10,700 ho urs of direct inspection related to ITAAC for Unit 4.
