This refers to your letter dated July 7,1977, with which you submitted additiona1'information in support of your application for a. specific license to distribute smoke detectors to persons exempt from licenisng' licensing pursuant to Section 30.20 of 10 CFR Part 30.
This confirms our telephone conversation of Novenber 30, 1977, in which we indicated that we needed additional information concerning the following 1tems:
- 1. In the description of your smoke detector and its intended use, you indicated that the detector would contain 1 millicurie of amricium-
~241. This is appamntly a typographical error since in other portions of your application you indicated that the smoke detector would contain 1 microcurie of americium-241. Please clarify.
- 2. Tne description of your quality contml program was not adequate.
You included information concerning the quality control procedures used by the manufacturers of the foils and your procedures for checking the foils for contamination upon receipt. We need a description. of your quality control procedures for. insuring that
. each smoke detector you fabricate will meet the standards of construction set by the prototype units. Specifically, you should include your pmcedures for checking the foil for proper activity upon receipt and your procedures for monitoring the assembly operation to insure the completed detector will meet your design and construction specifications.
