SUBJECT:
Commitment for Implementation of Multi-Source Dose Assessment Capability
Arkansas Nuclear One - Units 1 and 2
Docket Nos. 50-313 and 50-368
Dear Sir or Madam:
This letter provides information regarding multi-source dose assessment capability for
Arkansas Nuclear One (ANO) in response to the referenced communication from NEI.
The Emergency Response Organization at ANO currently uses the Unified RASCAL (Radiological Assessment System for Consequenc e Analysis) Interface (URI) computer program for modeling offsite dose assessment
- s. This computer program is used to estimate the dose consequences in the emergency response sectors using input
parameters (source term, meteorological conditions, etc.). In the event of a scenario
with concurrent releases from more than one release point, individual isotopic group
release rates can be combined into a total for each isotopic group release rate before
running dose projections or dose projections can be run for each release pathway and
end results combined. Instructions for performing this type of analysis are provided in
the ANO dose assessment emergency response procedure.
Consistent with the referenced letter, Entergy Operations, Inc. plans to transition to URI
Version 2 (URI-2), which provides for an improved capability for multi-source dose
consequence analysis. This transition to URI-2 is identified as a regulatory commitment
with a completion date of not later than December 31, 2014. Entergy Operations, Inc.
