UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 June 7, 2018 Mr. Robin DeLaBarre Office of Nuclear Energy, Safety& Security, Room 33200 HST Bureau of International Security& Nonproliferation U.S. Department of State 2201 estreat, NW Washington, DC 20520

Dear Mr. DeLaBarre:

Enclosed is an application (XW008/05), dated February 9, 2018, from Diversified Scientific Services, Inc., requesting Amendment No. 05 to its existing export license XW008/04.

The license presently authorizes the export of radioactive mixed waste to Canada. This application replaces the previously received application dated March 24, 2017.The purpose of the amendment/renewal requests:

(1) an extension of the license from March 31, 2017, to March 31, 2022; (2) a change to the license point of contact; (3) a change in the name of one ultimate foreign consignee from Atomic Energy of Canada, Limited to Canadian Nuclear Laboratories; (4) removal of the reference to Waste Classification as defined in 10 CFR 61.55 and reference to Table A2 values of 49 CFR 173.435 from the waste description, since 10 CFR 61.55 is not applicable because treated and processed waste are to be returned to Canada; (5) removal of previous references to Import License No. IW012/05:

(6)update of radioactivity levels; (7) inclusion of a port of exit in the State of New York and a port of exit in the State of Michigan. We request your assistance in notifying the Canadian Government of the proposed radioactive waste export from the U.S., and obtaining any comments that the Government might have in the context of the Joint Convention on the Safety of Sp^t^ Fuel Management and on Radioactive Waste Management.
