Dear Ms. Sharp:
. We have received your letter of August 3,1998, with the enclosed copy of a bid to perform a
. radiological site characterization study on the property located at 170 West Providencia Street
. In Burbank, California. In view of our regulatory responsibilities that require us to be as
' objective as possible, it is not appropriate for us to comment on commercial bids involving regulated activities. However, we recommend that you or your consultant consider using the
' Multi-Agency Radiation Survey and Site investigation Manual (MARSSIM) to evaluate the proposal.
MARSSIM is the result of a collaborative effort by several federal agencies to provide information on the planning, conducting, evaluating, and documenting of environmental -
. radiological surveys to demonstrate compliance _with radiation safety regulations. Printed copies of MARSSIM are available from the Government Printing Office. It may also be accessed on line through the NRC public home page (www.nre.aov click on the Nuclear Materials icon, then scroll to the bottom of the page to find the MARSSIM link). The document may be downloaded as a compressed file of approximately 2,300 KB.
' As we indicated in our previous letter, NRC will continue to work cooperatively with counterparts -
in the California Radiological Health Branch to address regulatory issoes associated with the property at 170 West Providencia Street, Burbank, California.
