?JCnifeb Sinico Senale WASHINGTON. D.C. 20910 April 10, 1979 Dr. Joseph E. Hendrie, Chaiman Nuclear Regulatory Comission 1717 H Street, N. W.
Washington, D. C. 20555
Dear Dr. Hendrie,
Delmarva Power S Light will be coming to NRC in connection with their stated goal of having available to them the option of a nuclear generating plant at Sunmit, Delaware. I have grave doubts about such a possibility at this site.
Within miles of Sumit, there is one nuclear generating plant, Salem I, with Salem II, to be on line sometime later this year, which will double nuclear genera-tion in this one geographic area where so many people live and work. It is an irresponsible act on the part of DPSL.
It is my understanding that nothing has been docketed yet at NRC. When any such request is submitted, I will appreciate being immediately notified of it, at my Wilmington office. (Your records will reflect previous hearings before the Atomic Safety 5 Licensing Board in 1974-1975 concerning Delmarva Power S Light's plans for high temperature gas reactors at Sumit.)
We both share concern for the safety and health of the public and I will want to work with NRC to insure responsible public participation in the decision-caking process. Whatever decision NRC makes must insure that the safety and health of our citizenry will be warranted insofar as is humanly possible.
Please keep me informed on this matter.
