| On 11 arch 4,1981, with the reactor mode switch in start-up and Operations performing II:lP-2-1010, Scram Recovery Procedure, IRli "II" 2C51-K601K, would not come on scale for overlap check between IR;i's and SRtI's which made it inoperative.

| Tech Spec Section 3.3.1 requires three operable channels.

| IRl1 "B" was also inop at that time.
| |
| This requirement was met by operable channels "D" and."F,".. This is a non-repetitive event.
| |
| An investigation of the IRf1 found the pins on the range plug, which plugs into the back of the IRM, pushed back and not making a good connection. The pins on the range plug were repaired and the IRIt is now working properly. The surveillance testing was completed sati s factorily.

| A generic review revealed no problems with the range plugs on the Unit I IRM's.
| |
| There were no effects to public health and safety due to this event.
