==Dear ASLB members:==
I have been informed that on July 11-12 the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission plans to hold an oral argument regarding the proposed WCS Interim Spent Fuel Storage Facility in Andrews, Texas. I am writing to offer the Midland County Central Jury Selection room in the County Courthouse building. Our Jury Selection room accommodates 300 people and can also be set up for audio and visual equipment. While we understand the Licensing Board is considering Lubbock, Midland is significantly closer to the proposed facility.
There is a Doubletree Hotel in downtown Midland within easy walking distance (4 blocks) of our County Courthouse and they have committed to offer a rate of $149 for Wed-Friday July 10-12. Currently, auto rental is expensive because of the oil boom, but Uber and taxis are available in town. While the Hotel doesn't have an airport shuttle, there are several commercial shuttles available and it is very easy to fly in and out of Midland. We are serviced by American, United and Southwest, all who have connections into DCA. There are several restaurants in the downtown area that would be available.
The proposed WCS facility is of great interest to our community. The County Commissioners, City Council and Chamber of Commerce have all signed proclamations that we do not want high level nuclear waste coming through Midland. Others support the project, and all of us want to know more. We think it would be of great value to our community for our citizens to be able to attend the oral argument.
Sincerely, s/Randy Prude Randy Prude, Midland County Commissioner, Precinct 4 432-685-1980 (O) 432-553-5445 (M)}}
