With the December 31, 2007 approval of the University of Illinois Reactor Decommissioning Plan the University has placed the decommissioning funding in the FY11 Capital Programs budget. This is the next available capital budget cycle within which the funds can be obtained. As a State licensee this is in accordance with 10 CFR 50.75(e)(1)(iv) - "...funds for decommissioning will be obtained when necessary." Uncertainty in the approval period for a decommissioning plan prevented accurately predicting the fiscal year in which the funding would be needed until this time.

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT URBANA-CHAMPAIGN College of Engineering 306 Engineering Hall, MC-266 1308 West Green Street Urbana, IL 61801 March 10, 2008 Docket No.: 50-151 Tom McLaughlin U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission MS T-8F5 Washington, DC 20555

Dear Mr. McLaughlin,

This timeline would put our determination of a contractor to the Spring of 2010 with work starting in the late Summer/Fall of 2010.

The reactor is a sole-use building which presents minimal potential risk to the public or environment. The building will continue to be monitored as it has since the facility shutdown in 1998.

If there are any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
