Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC (Duke Energy)
Oconee Nuclear Station (ONS), Units 1, 2, and 3 Docket Numbers 50-269, 50-270, and 50-287 Response to Requests for Additional Information Regarding ONS's 60-Day Response to Bulletin 2011-01 On May 11,2011, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Bulletin 2011-01:
Mitigating Strategies. The purpose of the Bulletin was to require licensees to provide a comprehensive verification of their compliance with 10 CFR 50.54(hh)(2) and to request information associated with licensee mitigating strategies per 10 CFR 50.54(hh)(2) in light of events at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi facility. The NRC required each licensee to submit a written 30-day and 60-day response from the date of the Bulletin. Duke Energy submitted the required 30-day and 60-day responses for ONS by letters dated June 9 (ADAMS Accession No. ML11161A168) and July 11,2011 (ADAMS Accession No. ML11193A261), respectively.
However, the NRC staff has determined that it needs additional information regarding ONS's 60-day bulletin response. The NRC's formal requests for additional information (RAIs) were provided to Duke Energy in a {{letter dated|date=January 17, 2012|text=letter dated January 17, 2012}}. The attachment to this letter provides ONS's response to the NRC's January 17th RAI letter.
Since Attachment I to this letter contains security sensitive information, Duke Energy hereby requests the NRC to withhold it from public disclosure pursuant to 10 CFR 2.390(d)(1), "Public inspections, exemptions, requests for withholding."
There are no new regulatory commitments contained in this letter. If there are any questions, or if additional information is required, please contact David Haile, ONS Regulatory Compliance at (864) 873-4742.
I declare under penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true and correct. Executed on February 16, 2012.
