: hours, an oil spill was discovered at the Cook Nuclear Plant and was reported to the Pollution Emergency Alert System shortly afterward.
The latest estimate is that 300 gallons of No ~
2 diesel oil was discharge'd from an underground storage tank to the ground.
The spill became apparent after the associated tank piping was overfilled during tank testing then lost oil dramatical'ly.
Cleanup and recovery measures began immediately and 150 gallons of oil has been.recovered from a
dry well located in the immediate vicinity of the discharge.
Forty-two cubic yards of contaminated soil have been removed as of June 13, 1988.
Cleanup measures are still underway, and investigations continue to locate the leak area.
Repairs will be made immediately to the leak area.
It is expected that the cleanup will be completed by June 17, 1988.
