Control Room Intake Duct (Chan1Hd 2-nlB)  
'l'his cbannel continuously monitors lhc: Control Hoom ventl lat ion system intake duct. Upon a higli radiation signal, this monitor initiates isolation of the ventilation system and actuates the Emergency Air Conditioning System which recirculatE=s the air through charcoal filters. This is a safety-related unit with a vital power supply. Either monitor 2-RlB or area monitor 2-HlA can initiate Control Room ventilation isolation.

Containment Sampling System (Channels 2-RllA, 2-Rl2A and 2-Rl2B)
The Containment Sampling System consists of three radiation monitors - a particulate monitor, a gaseous monitor, and an iodine monitor. The system utilizes a pump to draw a continuous air sample from the containment atmosphere.     The air sample is routed by the three radiation monitors and then returned to the containment. Containment isolation valves are providGd for the sampling system.

RESPONSE TO REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION NO. 2 UNIT SALEM NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION DOCKET NO. 50-3ll Public Service Electric and Gas Compan~ hereby submits sixty (60) copies of its revision to the No. 2 Unit Radiation Monitoring System submitted on November 1, l978.

This information will be incorporated into the Salem FSAR in an amendment to our application.

Control Room Intake Duct (Chan1Hd 2-nlB)

'l'his cbannel continuously monitors lhc: Control Hoom ventl lat ion system intake duct.

Upon a higli radiation signal, this monitor initiates isolation of the ventilation system and actuates the Emergency Air Conditioning System which recirculatE=s the air through charcoal filters.

This is a safety-related unit with a vital power supply.

Either monitor 2-RlB or area monitor 2-HlA can initiate Control Room ventilation isolation.

Containment Sampling System (Channels 2-RllA, 2-Rl2A and 2-Rl2B)

The Containment Sampling System consists of three radiation monitors -

a particulate monitor, a gaseous monitor, and an iodine monitor.

The system utilizes a pump to draw a continuous air sample from the containment atmosphere.

The air sample is routed by the three radiation monitors and then returned to the containment.

Containment isolation valves are providGd for the sampling system.

The particulate monitor detects particulate activity deposite~

on a moving filter tape mechanism.

The iodine monitor detects the iodine adsorbed in an impregnated charcoal filter cartridge.

Tbe gaseous monitor.detects noble gas activity in the air sai~q.Jle after it has passed through the particulate filter and iodine cartridge.

This monitor does not have the switching provisions described for the No. 1 Unit Containment or Plant Vent Monitoring System.

A separate Plant Vent Sampling System is provided for No. 2 Unit..
