Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
South Carolina Electric and Gas Compara reported a potential substantial safety hazard or potential significant deficiency as defined by 10CFR21 and 10CFR50.55e to Mr. Virgil Brownlee at the NRC Region II office on December 22, 1981. An interim report was written to Mr. James P. O'Reilly on January 20, 1982. The item involved Westinghouse globe valves (Limitorque Actuated) used for outside containment isolation of the seal injection lines not seating tight enough to restrict the flow of wai.er which could result in radioactive leakage to the atmosphere.
On March 19, 1982, a functional test of the containment isolation globe valves was conducted to determine if the valves would seat tight enough to seal off the flow of m ter. The globe valves wre operated over the full. range of torque settings. Tha tests demonstratal that the globe valves will seal off under full differential pressure.
Therefore, this is not a substantial safety hazard or significant deficiency. This letter serves as a final report.
If you have any questions, please let us know.
Very truly yours, t4 T. C. Nichols, Jr.
