REACTOR SHUTDOWN TO REPAIR REACTOR PROTECTION SYSTEM ~.J On March 11, 1997, the Unit 1 reactor was shut down to repair a reactor protection system scram relay malfunction. A conservative decision was made to repair the relay while shutdown rather than troubleshoot during power operations.

Other repair activities scheduled during the forced shutdown include:

repair of position indication for several turbine valves and bypass valves, repair of a steam sealing system valve, and minor heater bay steam leak repairs.

The repairs are scheduled for about 4 days, with return to service planned for the evening of March 15. 1997.

The State of Illinois will be informed. The information in this preliminary notification has been reviewed with licensee management.

Region III (Chicago) received the information on the decision to shut down on March 10, 1997.

This information is current as of 4:00 p.m. on March 11, 1997.
