To discuss submittal of a license for dry spent fuel storage under 10 CFR Part 72 for BG&E's Calvert Cliffs plant site.

DISCUSSION:

BG&E outlined its need for storage capacity for spent fuel. By the time of its spring 1992 outage it will have lost full core reserve in the single pool l

serving the two units at Calvert Cliffs. Therefore, after considering various alternatives, BG&E plans to submit a license application for onsite dry l

storage in January 1989.

It is evaluating bids now from various vendors.

Award of a contract will be made on September 1,1989. The site selected for dry storage is 1300 feet west of the plant switch yard.

BG&E and NMSS staff tentatively agreed to a late September 1988 meeting including BG&E's selected vendor. BG&E hopes to receive a license by October 1991 for life of plant storage.
