Earthquake activity in the Western Ohio - Indiana region has been monitored with a precision seismograph networ'k consisting of nine stations located in west-central Ohio and four stations sited in Iridiana. The nine Ohio stations have been upgraded by replacing geophones and VC0/ amplifiers with new, and more reliable components. Seven local and near-regional earthquakes have been recorded during this report period,

' Ohio, and three were located well outsNE. Of the seven events, four occurred in we ranging in magnitude from 1.4 to 3.0 m the' array, one near Chicago, Illinois, one in northern Kentucky, and one in western Pennsylvania. The event which occurred near Chicago on 9 September 1985 was felt; however, only minor damage was reported.

l Teleseismic P-wave arrival and residual tables have been updated to include newly acquired data. The results are substantially the same as in previous years.

Preliminary results from refraction experiments in the summer of 1984 indicate i

apparent velocities of 6.67 km/sec for refracted P arrivals from the basement, 8.27 km/sec for Pn arrivals, and 3.57 km/sec for Lg arrivals.
