Dear Congressman Wolf:

This is in reference to your letter to department and agericy heads dated Nwmber 13,1998, regarding telecommuting in the Federal Government. The Nuclear RequMory Commusion (NRC) supports efforts to balance work and home life demands including the use of appropriate alternative worksites, in this regard, the NRC has implemented a work-at-home policy for employees who are temporarily incapacitated due to injmy or illness or to care for a family member who is also temporarily incapacitated.

. in addition, we have recently implemented a limited worket-ho ne program based en Job suitability and individual performance of employees. This progmm does not reqr, ire personal or medical hardship as a basis for participation but rather a mutual understanding between supervisor and employee of the need to maintain operational effectiveness.

Although we have embarked on this program in deliberate fashion, we will certainly consider telecommuting centers as an appropriate alternative worksite as we gain more experience in this area. Please refer to my letter to you dated June 5,1998, for earlier information on our flexiplace initiatives.

Sincerely, b
