PRESS INTEREST IN REDUCTION IN STAFF AT GENERAL ELECTRIC On August 12, 1997, the licensee notified Region II of staff reductions ct ito facility near Wilmington, North Carolina. The reductions were offCctive on Friday, August 8, 1997. As of August 8, 1997, thirty-seven (37) calaried positions were eliminated: 15 positions resulted from voluntary separation and 22 were involuntary eliminations. The areas offccted were design, engineering, and production scheduling. According to th3 licensee, furtner reductions in temporary workers are expected latar this year. The licensee stated that the reductions were necessary Ct tho Wilmington facility to meet cost savings goals.

Thar3 was an article in the Wilmington, North Carolina Morning Star n:w: paper on August 9, which discussed the reduction in staff.

The State of North Carolina was notified by the NRC on August 13, 1997.
