Gentlemen:
On October 21, 1986, we notified you by our letter logged TXX-6054 of a deficiency involving the seismic design of conduit, which we deemed reportable under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e). This is an interim report submitted to status corrective action implemented to date.
The testing program to evaluate the ability of adhesives or clamps applied to conduit couplings after installation to resist torsional moments is currently underway.
Preliminary results indicate that previously used adhesives or clamps will not adequately resist torsional moments. However, these results have also shown that a heretofore unused combination of fiberglass cloth and resin may be suitable for the loading conditions identified. The identification of further corrective actions is dependent upon the results of the testing of this material program. The testing program is currently scheduled for completion by March 31, 1987.
Our next report on this issue will be submitted no later than May 1,1987.
