McCaughey visited GA to discuss,'the status of GA's decontamination plan and subsequent confirmatory survey. plans to be performed by Oak Ridge Associated' Universities (0RAU). The' major objec-tive of the decontamination program is to provide for the' unrestricted release of approximately 300 acres of licensed land. The decontamination effort is'-

.being performed in three phases.

Phase I includes the Solar Evaporation Ponds, i

the area north of the ponds, the canyon helow the ponds, the canyon area'below the Waste Processing Facility, and adjacent land areas.. Phase'II includes the Former Waste Processing Facility, the incinerator site, and a small area where 4

contaminated asphalt was previously buried.

Phases I and II constitute Area A in Figure 1.

Phase III (Area B, Figure 1) consists of undeveloped land, asphalt paving, a building housing-general shipping / receiving facilities and offices, San Diego Gas and Electric Company's Ll Torrey Pines Substation, an abandoned sewage treatment' facility, and a pump station to the municipal sewage system. Presently,.0RAU,is performing a followup confirmatory survey of the areas in Phase I and an initial confirma-tory survey of areas in Phases II and III.

Toured were the TRIGA Fuel Fabrication Facility, TRIGA Research Reactor, Callan.

Ponds, and the HTGR Fuel Fabrication Facility.
