SUMMARY

OF APRIL 10, 1989 MEETING WITH GPU NUCLEAR ON CURRENT LICENSING ISSUES The NRC staff met with representatives of GPU Nuclear Corporation (GPUN) at the TMI Site near Middletown, Pennsylvania on April 10, 1989 to discuss the status and future actions of all active licensing issues. is a list of attendees at the meeting. Enclosure 2 is a listing of the activities discussed during the meeting.

The licensing activities as listed on Enclosure 2 provided the basis for the discussions. Changes to future actions and dates on the list were specifically discussed.

The last two TMI Action Plan Items under evaluation by NRR (II.K.3.31 and I.C.1) were completed since the last monthly meetings and closecut letters were sent to GPU Nuclear on March 28, 1989. Although not shown on Enclosure 2, the NRC also completed a detailed audit of the TMI-1 emergency operating procedures in March 1989. The audit indicated the procedures were adequate and minor improvements will be recommended in the audit report.

The remaining three active license anendment requests (TSCR Nos. 186, 187 and 188) have been combined into one amendment because of their similarity and will be issued during the latter part of April. Several new amendment requests, not yet submitted to the NRC, were also discussed, l

The GPUN response to NRC Bulletin 88-10 (Nonconforming Molded Case Circuit l

Breakers) is being delayed pending clarification by the NRC Office of Research of what constitutes adequate vendor certification for breakers purchased in the early 1970's.
