ASSESSMENT

Dear Mr. Kuehn:

The purpose of this letter is to make one correction to the safety evaluation for Amendment No.15 to Amended Facility License No. DPR-4 for the Saxton Nuclear Experimental Facility (Amendment 15)/ which was issued on April 20,1998, and three

corrections to the associated Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact (EA) which was issued on April 9,1998.

Page 3-10 o' f the EA,' Section 3.2.2 states that the highest dcse rates measured were approximately 80 mSv (8,000' mrem) per hour in contact with the boric acid dominerializer.

Figure 3.7 shows dose rates of up to 200 mSv (20,000 mrem) per hour. The dose rates on j

' the figure represent up to date information. 'The 80 mSv (8,000 mrem) dose rate in.

Section 3.2.2 should oe changed to read 200 mSv (20,000 mrem) per hour.

. Page'4-9 of the EA, Section 4.8 states that contaminated asbestos is " mixed low-level radioactive waste." The word " mixed" should be removed.

L Amendment 15 states that "the worse case material-handling accident considered involved

telephone conversation on April 22,- 1998, that while this vessel contained the most resins of any vessel on thq site, there were other vessels with fewer resins on the site. This
