OF OCTOBER 21, 2021, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS AGENCY EFFORT TO REVIEW APPROACH TO ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE AND SHARE AN OVERVIEW OF COMMENTS PROVIDED ON THIS EFFORT TO DATE On October 21, 2021, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a public meeting1 via teleconference provide information on the NRCs systematic assessment of how the agency addresses environmental justice (EJ) in its programs, policies, and activities. The purpose of the meeting was to present feedback the NRC staff has heard to date and hear additional insights and perspectives pertaining to EJ in NRCs programs, policies, and activities.
The comments and dialog provided by the meeting participants are inputs that will be used to inform the NRC staffs systematic assessment, as directed by the Commission in Staff Requirements Memorandum (SRM) M210218B.2 At the start of the meeting, the NRC staff stated that the meeting was a comment gathering meeting. As with all NRC public meetings, no regulatory decisions were made during the meeting. The NRC staff provided a short presentation3 that included a summary of some of the comments and feedback that have been received to date. The NRC staff then held an extended session for public comments and questions.

Both the presentation and Federal Register Notice identified multiple ways that interested parties could provide comments on this effort. The meeting was transcribed (ADAMS Accession No. ML21300A208).
The attendee list is enclosed with this summary. There were approximately 130 attendees on the meeting bridge line, and about 100 of those people identified themselves.
No regulatory decisions were made in the meeting. The NRCs Public Document Room resource can provide assistance accessing documents referenced.
