Dear Mr. Beedle:
Thank you for your letter of March 5, 2001, concerning the proposal presented in SECY-01-0009 to make certain revisions to the Reactor Safety Goal Policy Statement. The Commission has disapproved issuance of the revised policy statement at this time.
In a Staff Requirements Memorandum, dated April 16, 2001, the staff was directed to consult with the Commission on a more significant revision to the policy statement in the future, after further progress has been made on the agencys various risk-informed initiatives. When the policy statement is revisited, the Commission will continue to ensure that interested stakeholders are involved in the revision process.
