LOCA~ECCS ANALYSIS PERFORMED BY EXXON NUCLEAR A telephone conference call with the NRC staff on March 20, 1985 brought to our attention, problems that exists with recent Exxon Nuclear LOCA-ECCS analysis on Westinghouse plants for which Exxon provides reload fuel.
Although the Palisades Plant is a Combustion Engineering Plant that has reload fuel provided by Exxon, Consumers Power Company reviewed the two (2) separate analy~is problems and made the following determinations:
The first problem relates to a multiplication factor and augmentation factors incorporated in the TOODEE2 computer code after January 1982. The LOCA-ECCS analysis supporting our current operation does not use the factors in question because the analysis was performed for the Palisades Plant in 1977 and 1978 and documented in Exxon Reports XN-NF 77-24, 78-16, 81-34 and XN-NF 78-16 supplement 1. This fact is supported by a March 18, 1985 letter from Exxon -
Nuclear to Consumers Power Company and by verbal communication on March 21, 1985.
The second problem pertains to the direct use by Exxon Nuclear of a K factor from the Westinghouse safety analysis. This factor is involved in th~
determination of the maximum allowed axial power shape in the LOCA-ECCS analysis. The LOCA-ECCS analysis performed by Exxon Nuclear for the Palisades Plant did not use any kind of an assumed K factor but rather an axial shape z
sensitivity study was performed and is documented in Exxon report XN-NF 78-16.
