This is in response to your letter of November 11, 1977, in reference to the inspection conducted at Surry Power Station on October 4-7, 1977 and report-ed in IE Inspection Report Nos. 50-280/77-29 and 50-281/77-29. This is a supple-ment to our previous responses of December 6, 1977 and December 21, 1977, and addresses Appendix A, page 2, item E of your letter of November 11, 1977.

In order to insure that the Liquid Waste honitor is performing as specified

. Technical Specification 3.7.E and Table 3.7-5 the following program will be

• ducted.

(1) In order to insure that the liquid waste monitor will alarm and shut the discharge valve as required, a test will be done using liquid waste samples with isotope activities near the alarm set-point as determined by the multi-channel analyzer. The test will be conducted during the week of February 6, 1978.

(2) In order to evaluate overall performance of the liquid waste moni-tor, a correlation study will be conducted between monitor readings, and liquid waste samples of known isotope activities. In order to obtain liquid waste samples from worst case conditions, the study will include samples from liquid waste due to the March Unit No. 2 shutdown. This study should be completed by April 15, 1978.
