certified.TheNRCstaffcurrentlyisreviewingfourapplicationsforstandarddesigncertifications:GENuclearEnergy'sAdvanced BoilingWaterReactor(ABWR)andSimplifiedBoilingWaterReactor (SBWR)designs,AseaBrownBoveri/CombustionEngineering'sSystem 80+andWestinghouseElectricCorporation'sAP600.Current schedulessuggestthatdesigncertificationrulemakingsforthe ABWRandSystem80+designscouldbeginnextyear.Astandarddesigncertificationcouldbereferencedforaperiodof15yearsfromadatecoming30daysafternoticeofthe standarddesigncertificationintheFederalRegister.Itwould remainvalidforanapplicantorlicenseethatreferencesit untiltheirapplicationiswithdrawnortheirlicenseexpires.TheAdvanceNoticedescribestheinformationtobereferencedinthestandarddesigncertification,theprocessthat wouldbeusedformakingchangesinthestandarddesign certificationandotherinformation,andspecifiestherecords whichwouldhavetobemaintainedbyanapplicantorlicensee thatreferencesastandarddesigncertification.InadditiontoaskingforgeneralcommentsontheAdvanceNoticeofProposedRulemaking,theCommissionwouldbe particularlyinterestedinthepublic'sviewsonanumberof specifictopicswhicharesetforthintheFederalRegister
