-200-1128 NRC To Hold Public Meeting on Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will meet on July 12 with representatives of Pacific Gas & Electric Co. to discuss the 2016 safety performance of the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant
, located in San Luis Obispo, Calif. The meeting, which will be open to the public, is scheduled for 6
-9 p.m., at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel, 1605 Calle Joaquin in San Luis Obispo. The public is invited to observe the meeting and will have an opportunity to ask questions or make comments following the business portion of the meeting. A letter sent from the NRC Region IV office to plant officials addresses the performance of the plant in 2016. Current performance information for the plant can be found on the NRC website. "By assessing each plant's performance in a comprehensive manner, we are able to focus our inspection resources on those areas most in need of attention," NRC Region IV Administrator Kriss Kennedy said.
Overall, Diablo Canyon operated safely in 2016, but will receive a supplemental inspection in addition to the normal level of NRC oversight because of an inspection finding of low to moderate safety significance for failing to adequately maintain a valve in the plant's emergency core cooling system.}}
