50-328 In accordance with 10 CFR 50.90, TVA hereby submits a request for an amendment to facility operating licenses DPR-77 and DPR-79 for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant units 1 and 2 to authorize TVA to operate a volume reduction system (VR) to process low-level radioactive waste (LLRW). This equipment would be used to process LLRW by incineration and calcination. The residue (ash and/or salt) will be solidified for storage onsite or disposal offsite. | |||
Enclosed is a description of the VR and an analysis of the impacts of its construction and operation. We believe this approach is consistent with the NRC " Policy Statement on Low-Level Waste Volume Reduction" as published in the October 16, 1981 Federal Register notice FR 51101. | |||
In accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 170.22, we have determined this proposed amendment to be Class III. This classification is based on the fact that the proposed amendment involves a single safety issue which does not involve a significant hazard. The remittance of $4,000 is being wired to the NRC, Attention: | |||
