50-328 In accordance with 10 CFR 50.90, TVA hereby submits a request for an amendment to facility operating licenses DPR-77 and DPR-79 for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant units 1 and 2 to authorize TVA to operate a volume reduction system (VR) to process low-level radioactive waste (LLRW). This equipment would be used to process LLRW by incineration and calcination. The residue (ash and/or salt) will be solidified for storage onsite or disposal offsite.
Enclosed is a description of the VR and an analysis of the impacts of its construction and operation. We believe this approach is consistent with the NRC " Policy Statement on Low-Level Waste Volume Reduction" as published in the October 16, 1981 Federal Register notice FR 51101.
In accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 170.22, we have determined this proposed amendment to be Class III. This classification is based on the fact that the proposed amendment involves a single safety issue which does not involve a significant hazard. The remittance of $4,000 is being wired to the NRC, Attention:
