TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY-TENNESSEE MULTI-SECTOR GENERAL PERMIT 1998 STORM WATER MONITORING REPORT FOR SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT (SON)

Please find enclosed the 1998 Tennessee Multi-Sector General Permit Storm Water Monitoring Report for SON, Please note the following comments conceming the manner in which the report was prepared.

Storm water samples for SW-7, SW-8, and SW-9 were not collected in the first two quarters of 1998. SW-7 is deemed substantially identical to SW-6's effluent. SW-6 samples were collected in all four calendar quarters. SW-7 samples were collected during tha 3rd and 4th calendar quarters for information purposes.

SW-8, SW-9, and SW-10 were identified during an intemal assessment as additional discharge points. SW-10 is deemed substantially identical to SW-4's effluent. Subsequent to the identification storm water samples were collected from SW-8 and SW-9 in the 3rd and 4th calendar quarters, iron concentrations from SW-8 and SW-9 were well within " cut-off' concentration limits during the 1st sampling effort conducted on 9/21/98. A lon'g period of dry weather preceded the sampling effort conducted on 12/7/98. Due to the drought, iron concentrations exceeded the " cut off' for the 12/7/98 effort. BMPs were reinforced and resampling of SW-8 and SW-9 conducted on 12/28/98 and 12/19/98 yielded iron concentrations of 1.7 and

,1 1.2 mg/L, respectively. The averages for SW-8 and SW-9 reflect the results of two sets of samples that j

were collected during 4th quarter as well as 3rd quarter samples.
