James H. Taylor 4

Executive Director for Operations FROM:

David L. Morrison, Director Office of Nuclear Regulatory Researc 3

SUBJECT:

GENERIC ISSUE MANAGEMENT CONTROL SYSTEM -

FOURTH QUARTER FY-96 UPDATE Attached is the Fourth Quarter FY-96 update of the Generic Issue Management 4

Control System (GIMCS) for your information. This report reflects the following major activities that occurred during the reporting period:

(1)

Two generic safety issues (GSIs) were prioritized and will require resolution:

190 Fatigue Evaluation of Metal Components for 60-Year Plant Life 191 Assessment of Debris Accumulation on PWR Sump Performance (2)

Five generic issues were identified for prioritization, including three by NMSS.

s Thus, seven issues remain to be prioritized (see Table 7), three issues remain 1

to be reprioritized (see Table 8), and seventeen GSIs remain to be resolved, including two that are scheduled for resolution in the First Quarter of FY-97 (See Table 4A).

In response to the Commission request in SRM951219A that the staff use "gng acency-wide ceneric issue resolution trackino system," GIMCS has been expanded to track ongoing work on:
