This refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. C. T. Oberg of this office on September 26 and 27, 1978, of activities at the University of Iowa authorized by NRC Byproduct Material License No. 14-02938-07 and to the discussion of our findings with Dr. William J. Farrell and others of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.

The inspection was an examination of activities conducted under your license as they relate to radiation safety and to compli-ance with the Commission's rules and regulations and with the conditions of your license. The inspection consisted of a selective examination of procedures and representative records, observations, independent measurements, and interviews with personnel.

In addition to the above areas, the inspector examined actions described in your letters dated February 6 and 7, and May 19, 1978, regarding apparent items of noncompliance found during our October 26-28 and November 8 and 9, 1977, inspection. We have no further questions regarding these matters.

No items of noncompliance with NRC requirements were identified during the course of this inspection.
