NRC BULLETIN 96-01: CONTROL ROD INSERTION PROBLEMS SALEM GENERATING STATION UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 FACILITY OPERATING LICENSE NOS. DPR-70 AND DPR-75 DOCKET NOS. 50-272 AND 50-311 This correspondence supplements the Public Service Electric

& Gas Company (PSE&G) response of April 8, 1996 (LR-N96093) to NRC Bulletin 96-01. Specifically, the Bulletin requested licensees to provide certain control rod data for the 1996 calendar year (Requested Actions 3 & 4).

Due to the extended Salem outage, only partial data was collected during 1996. The relevant Control Rod Drive drag test information is provided in Attachment 1 of this letter.

No abnormal conditions were identified as part of this testing. Calendar year 1997 and Unit 1 and 2 restart data will be available for on-site review and provided upon request.
