==Dear Mr. Lochbaum,==

Thank you for your letter of December 14, 2016, concerning the NextEra Energy Seabrook LLC license amendment request to revise its Safety Analysis Report to include methods for analyzing seismic Category I structures with concrete affected by an alkali-silica reaction (ASR). We first began to examine the ASR issue during our subcommittee meeting for Seabrook license renewal on July 10, 2012. Since then we have had technical briefings and visited NIST, where research on ASR is being performed. We expect to continue following the work on ASR. The Committee has not yet decided if we can address all the technical issues through currently planned reviews or if further activities will be needed.
