SUBJECT: NUREG-0737, ITEM II.K.3.44-EVALUATION OF ANTICIPATED TRANSIENTS

COMBINED WITH SINGLE FAILURE (Generic Letter No. 81-32)

The staff has completed its review of the General Electric BWR Owner Group report dated December 29, 1980 pertaining to the subject NUREG-0737 item.

This report was prepared for the participating applicants/licensees identi- fied in the enclosure.

This is to advise you that we have found the response contained in this report to be acceptable on a generic basis. However, in order to confirm the applicability of this report to your facility we request that you pro- vide verification that the assumptions and initial conditions used in the analyses are representative for your plant(s). Licensees and applicants are to provide this information according to the following schedule:

a. Licensees of operating plants within 90 days of receipt of this letter, b. Applicants for operating licenses within 90 days of receipt of this letter and c. The remaining participating utilities within 30 days of docketing of the FSAR.

If the conditions and assumptions used in the analyses are not representative, the licensee should identify the major design differences between the plant analy~ed and the licensee's plant. A qualitative assessment of the effect these differences have on the analyses can be offered by the licensee; however, if this assessment lacks technical support, a schedule for providing plant specific analyses will be required. For applicants for operating licenses the completion dates for any required analyses should be consistent with your review schedule.

The above information is requested in accordance with Sections 103.b(3) and

161.c of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended. The request for informa"

tion was approved by OMB under clearance number 3150-0065 which expires June 30, 1983.
