Components of the Electric Grid

Roles of FERC and the States The Federal Power Act divides jurisdiction over the electric industry between the federal and state governments.

• The federal government is responsible for regulating the transmission of electric energy in interstate commerce and the sale of such energy at wholesale in interstate commerce.
