FAILURE OF REACTOR COOLANT PUMP SEAL At approximately 1:00 p.m., August 16, 1976, the Arkansas Nuclear Unit I reactor coolant pump "D" seal failed, causing a leak of approximately' 25 gpm. The plant was shut down immediately to replace the damaged seal and to determine the cause of failure. The total amount of primary system water that leaked into the containment was approximately 27,000 gallons.
