THIRD QUARTER PROGRAM CHANGES The program chances, described below and shown in the above table, are related primarily to funding increases in contractual support and travel cnd resulted in the utilization of funds which were unobligated at the end of FY 1996 and were carried over into FY 1997.

Reactor Program $179,000 i

The third quarter program changes reflect increased funding primarily fer travel needs for on-site reactor inspections and for travel expenses associated with sending more than 20 recently hired (due to attrition) reactor inspectors to training at NRC's Technical Training Center.

Nuclear Materials and Nuclear Waste Program $105,000 The third quarter program changes reflect increased funding primarily for providing technical support in evaluating the potential bidders for ownership of the U.S.

Enrichment Corporation (USEC). As directed by the USEC Privatization Act, the NRC must not issue cenificates of compliance to the new owner if it determines that "issu1nce would be inimical to the maintenance of a reliable and econcmic r,ource of domestic enrichment services."
