Items of Interest Week Ending MARCH 13, 2020 NRC Issues Subsequent Renewed Licenses for Peach Bottom Reactors On March 5, 2020, the staff issued the subsequent renewed facility operating licenses for Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, Units 2 and 3. The new operating licenses for Units 2 and 3 expire on August 8, 2053, and July 2, 2054, respectively. The issuance of the Peach Bottom subsequent renewed licenses bring the total number of subsequent renewed licenses to four.
NRC Issues License Amendment for Brunswick to Allow the Use of Framatome ATRIUM 11 Advanced Fuel and Seven New Methodologies On March 6, 2020, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff approved a license amendment for Brunswick to allow the use of Framatome ATRIUM 11 advanced fuel and seven new methodologies in a first of a kind application. ATRIUM 11 fuel has a lower density liner heat generation rate and chromia doped fuel pellets to improve safety margins. Brunswick, Unit 1 will begin operation with the Atrium 11 fuel following their Spring outage.
