RG 1.175, published in August 1998, describes an acceptable approach for the development of a risk-informed application in support of a change to an inservice testing program. RG 1.177, published in May, 2011, describes methods acceptable to the NRC staff for assessing the nature and impact of proposed technical specification changes by considering engineering issues and applying risk insights. RG 1.178, published in September 2003, describes guidance on acceptable approaches to meeting the existing Section XI requirements for the scope and frequency of inspection of inservice inspection of piping programs. As discussed in Management Directive 6.6, Regulatory Guides, the NRC staff reviews RGs approximately every 10 years to ensure that the RGs continue to provide useful guidance.
