2.0 DISCUSSION

Asaresultoftheongoinginvestigation intotheroot-cause oftherecentdieselgenerator crankcase explosions anareaofconcernis,whatimpactdoescombustion intakeairtemperature haveondieseloperation.

Perthemanufacturers specifications thistestwillincreasecombustion intakeairtemperature towithinarangeof105-110'F.

Atthistemperature anengineanalyzerwillbeutilizedtomeasureparameters suchascylinderpeakfiringpressure, firingangleandhorsepower.

Areviewofthisdatawilldetermine iftheEDieselGenerator isproperlybalanced, Ifnecessary engineadjustments willbeperformed andanotherengineanalyzerdatacollection willbeperformed.

Thisprocesswillberepeateduntilthedieselisconsidered tobebalanced.

Uponobtaining abalanceddieseltheESWflowthruthedieselintercoolers willbeincreased andmeasureduntilcertainintakeairtemperatures areobtained.

FinallytheESWflowthroughtheintercoolers willbereturnedtoitsnormalstatus(i.e.,inletvalvefullopen)andanengineanalyzerrunwillbeperformed.

Thedatafromthisfinalanalyzerrunwillbecomparedtothepreviousanalyzerrunstodetermine thecharacteristics ofengineoperation withrespecttointakeairtemperature.

Presently theESWInletValvetotheEDieselGenerator Intercoolers isFullOpen.Therefore, bythrottling inthecloseddirection duringthistest,moreflowwillbedirectedtotheothercomponents suppliedbyESW.Asaresul't,ifaffected, theflowstoothercomponents suppliedbyESWwillbeconservatively affected.
