COMPANY CORRECTIVE ACTIONS FOLLOWING JANUARY EVENT | |||
AT HATCH PLANT | |||
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has scheduled a meeting with Southern Nuclear | |||
Operating Company officials in Atlanta May 17 to discuss the companys specific corrective actions | |||
following an unplanned shutdown on January 26 of the Unit 1 reactor at the Hatch Nuclear Plant near | |||
Baxley, Georgia. Unit 1 automatically shut down when a valve in one of the two main lines carrying | |||
water to the reactor closed, and some of the equipment did not operate as expected. The NRC sent an | |||
Augmented Inspection Team, or AIT, to review equipment performance, operator actions and company | |||
response to the event . | |||
The meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. on May 17 in the NRC Region II office, 61 Forsyth Street, | |||
Suite 24T20 in Atlanta and will be open to observation by the media and public. NRC officials will be | |||
available at the conclusion of the meeting to answer any questions. | |||
