Dear Professor Kestin:

Thanks very much for your letter and invitation to speak at your 1979 program on energy matters.

Speculating on one's schedule as far ahead as late September and early October is apt to be more a crystal ball exercise than one of firm planning, especially with the Congress ready to pre-empt one's time at a moments notice.

However, I have accepted a speaking engagement in Denmark for the last week in September, and hope to make some agency business calls in London and Vienna the following week or so.

That presents a substantial conflict with your proposed schedule for the energy program, I am afraid.

I think I had better decline, with thanks, and suggest one or more of my colleagues might be approached.
