Dear Mr. Olsen:

This refers to Certificate of Compliance No. 5908 for the Model No. DOT.6M Type B packaging which has'an expiration date of February 28, 1991.

Since the certificate references include.several supplements, a consolidated application, complete in itself and-which includes drawings and all pertinent information should be submitted.- Preferably, the application should be in the format of Regulatory Guide 7.9.

The application should demonstrate that the package design meets the requirements of 10 CFR Part-71, including'the containment provisions in 10 CFR. 671.51 and the double containment provisions for plutonium in 10 CFR 971.63.'

The application should also include a description of the materials' of construction used for the package, complete and current operating procedures,-

acceptance tests and a maintenance program.

The: application should show.that.

the materials of construction used for the containment vessels 1have adequate-fracture toughness.

The operating procedures and maintenance program _ should include leak tests that will be performed prior to each shipmen _t-and at periodic intervals.

Note that the Certificate of Compliance may be conditioned to specifically cite the operating procedures, acceptance tests and maintenance program.

This notice of expiration should-not be construed that such notice will. be '

provided in the future. Also, please let us know if you do not intend to request renewal of the certificate.
